I made out like a bandit, or a pirate, or a what-have-you this year:

The Racing Rats, which is 8K (!!!) of awesomeness. If any of you have read the Malazan Book of the Fallen, you should go and read this fic which is awesome and made of awesomeness, and did I mention yet that it's 8K (!!!)? (Kellanved and Dancer walk into a bar. There is no punchline.)

Dead and Breakfast, which is 4K (!!!) of assassins. Specifically, it's Han and Victoria from the RED movies. (Right now, the only comment on this is mine, and I feel a bit bad about that. I mean, assassins! A bed and breakfast at a lake with kayaks! Explosions! Why am I the only one who left a comment on this? At least three other people requested this ship, too.)

Five Times Jack Couldn’t Talk About Love, which is a full length Madness gift for Jack/David from Kings and all about how their relationship basically runs on David's stubbornness and Jack's actual ability to recognize a good thing and not quite screw it up in spite of himself.

Two bonus recs that may actually involve fandoms people know:

Arise the Sun (Rejoice!) (Ladyhawke fanart)

Hexarchate Board Game Club (Machineries of Empire cracky gen)

My recipient left a nice, all caps comment an hour or so after the collection opened, and then a day later they left another one, so I'm quite happy with what I wrote for my assignment, too. I've also managed to cross 'Get a kudos and/or comment from someone on your f-list' off my Yuletide bingo card, which always makes me happy even when I wonder if they recognized me (and felt obliged to make an effort to say something).

JEALOUS. I haven't gotten any comments on my Yuletide fic yet. :/ Maybe it just wasn't very good? Or the recipient didn't like it? Boo.

But also: super jealous of all your fic. Mine is cute and quaint. :)

Nah, I'm happy for your good fortune. ♥

Yeah -- I mean, I've definitely gone far longer without leaving comments, though I did contact the author (since I knew who it was). Oh, well. Womp womp.

Checking post reveals, the ones I commented/kudosed, I definitely did not realize it was you, although it does not surprise me in retrospect! :)

Haha, yes, half my rec list ended up being people on my flist, unknowing to me (well, one knowing -- the other Nimona fic, which I'd beta-ed for a friend :) I guess I'm consistent in my tastes? :P

[profile] cafe_massolit/meguri_aite and I were also trying to figure out whether her Nimona treat and her Nimona/Hexarchate crossover treat were by the same author or not -- answering comments on one but not the other fooled us! :)

The funny thing is that I dithered over whether to mention in my comment on the Johnny/Dutch fic that it had made me enjoy a pairing which was normally my NOTP and decided that would be in poor tone. That I mentioned it in my own rec list is proof I had no idea the author would be reading that entry XP

Whether or not I avoid NOTPs in small fandoms tends to be a function of how strong the NOTP, how much I like the relationship between the two characters (shippiness aside), and how desperate I am for fic in the fandom in general. I really like Dutch and Johnny platonically, so I decided to take a chance, especially since it was a short fic, and was very glad I did! :)

Oh oops, and I blathered for paragraphs without actually answering your question -- no, I haven't read Malazan, unfortunately. I've heard really excellent things about it, but the sheer size of the series and my fannish osmosis sense that it takes a while to get into it has been daunting me...
