Tinkered with Tumblr for a bit, which seems good for finding stuff, but less good for actually talking to people? I like that you can follow searches/tags, though, because it means you can just, well, do that, instead of hunting down people who might post about that one fandom you share, but are more likely to post about the two dozen you don't.

(On the other hand, the 'I don't know this fandom, but X mentioned it and it sounds pretty cool' feels like more of a feature than a bug on DW/LJ? So ... I don't know.)

I watched Pride and Prejudice and Zombies this weekend, which was possibly a mistake because I don't like either zombie movies or Jane Austen novels. (Um. I tried Northanger Abbey once, years and years ago, but it wasn't my thing and I never tried again, after) but it had Douglas Booth in it, whom I wanted to see in something else after Jupiter Ascending (as one does?) and, well, he was in this?

The zombies left me only a little bit afraid to leave the house while it's still dark out, so that was good. The romance didn't work for me, which was less good. It's just - the first time Mr. Darcy proposes, Liz turns him down because he's an arrogant jerk. We've seen him be an arrogant jerk. We've been shown or told about some of his actions that indicate that he's an arrogant jerk. So Liz turning him down demonstrated her sense and sensibility, and I was on board with that.

But then the second time, instead of Liz going 'well, I thought you were an arrogant jerk, but now that I've gotten to know you better, I realize that you're not', Liz goes 'I was actually totally in love with you from the first time I saw you'. Which sort of made me feel old and a little angry. I ... guess I don't believe in love at first sight anymore? (Lust at first sight, sure, but not 'let's get married!' love at first sight.)

So now I'm comforting myself with Georgette Heyer's The Grand Sophy and a rewatch of The Man From UNCLE (movie). (Well, Illya and Napoleon have something at first sight, anyway. Although it's really the Gaby-Illya that gets me every time.)

Ha, yes, this is precisely my reaction to Pride and Prejudice (with or without zombies) every time. It doesn't help that women all over the world seem to have collectively decided that Mr Darcy is the perfect example of a dashing romantic hero, and I'm so confused where the idea is coming from. (I love asshole characters. What I don't love are assholes canon treats like they're not assholes.)

I liked P&P&Z a lot more than I expected to (found the book a bit flat), except for the curious lack of UST between the leads.

Also I just didn't warm to the actor who played Darcy - I've since watched him in SS-GB and been more impressed.

I love The Grand Sophy, I assume you've read astolat's yuletide PWP of course, I reread it again the other day, just cos.

I'm a die hard classic Napoleaon/Illya fan who was completely won over by movie Illya/Gaby. I just treat them as AU versions of the same fandom and it's all good.

God, that is such an excellent summary of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It was so terrible, but once you decided it was meant to be a mockery of both zombies and P&P, so hilarious. Oh, man. I watched it on a whim, and I very nearly turned it off at the beginning. Not a fantastic movie.

(Also: yessss Jupiter Ascending, I loved that movie. ♥)

Fair enough!

(And "Killjoys" is phenomenal, definitely keep watching! I love it so much. And, uh, ship D'avin/Johnny, which is apparently not a thing, no matter where I look. Except for one fic in Russian. If only I knew Russian.)
