I love the knight life
Jul. 15th, 2021 01:17 pmAfter treating myself to a rewatch of the Fast & Furious movies 1 through 8 by way of making up for not getting to see F&F9 for a while yet, I was in the mood for something else with shiny, flashy cars. I'd already rewatched Fastlane recently (which, hey, it's even got the word 'fast' in the title!) so now I'm rewatching the 2008 Knight Rider reboot and it's just ... very tropey and carporny, and I love it.
Wikipedia tells me KITT is voiced by none other than Val Kilmer (Iceman in Top Gun, Perry in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, among others) which makes me feel 50% better about still being hugely attracted to a talking car. Who can also hack into any network and *vague gesture* transform and stuff.
A recent(ly seen) mission briefing almost literally went like:
BRIEFING: We have reason to suspect a foreign power is trying to smuggle a weapons system into the US!
A: What foreign power?
BRIEFING: Unknown.
B: What kind of weapons system?
BRIEFING: No idea. But anyway, here's your undercover identity.
In a more serious show, the lack of details might annoy me, but with this show, it just feels like the writers picked their priorities and 'plot details' wasn't high on the list. And I am okay with that? What do I care about plot details as long as I get to see a man and his car go ondates adventures together and feel bad when the other one gets hurt?
Disclaimer: I've never seen the original Knight Rider, so I've no idea how the reboot compares.
